MyCrypto (Metamask)

MyCrypto is an open source Ethereum based wallet where users can manage their accounts securely and privately. They were acquired by Metamask earlier in 2022.

Project Overview

Challenge

Redesign the token command center where users are able to manage all of their tokens.

Solution

Update their existing components and restructure the content to match current trends of users.

  • Prioritize new information like multiple tokens.

  • Restructure how users interact with each token.

Role

UX/UI Designer

Time

2 months

The Previous Build

The original Token Command Center was originally built to account for users who have a small amount of tokens. Users in this time period only had a handful of tokens, so this dashboard only really accounted for 5-10. Since then users have expanded their wallets exponentially.

Exploration

When tasked with this redesign, I presented the team with 9 variations. The first proposal included small tweaks to their current layout, the second proposal included redesigning their existing components, and the third was a full redesign.

It’s crucial during the exploration phase to show stakeholders all the possibilities. When we provide multiple solutions, it allows them to consider the important of the redesign.

3 Minimal Variations

3 Variations with Redesigned Components

3 Fully Redesigned Variations

Final Solution

Pulling pieces from each of my redesigns, we were able to settle on this variation. With some design direction from Allison Verville, we changed the segmented controllers to swatches. This made the controls more vivid, and brought more attention to the ways users can control their dashboard.

Aside from that, we pulled the idea of “Top Movers” from my redesign proposals in order to establish even more value to users looking to gather pertinent information from their tokens.

The final big change was my redesign of the “Accounts” data table. My proposal was able to solve for users having multiple accounts (Ethereum and Polygon) and establishing which tokens are associated with either account.

Final Thoughts

This project was big for me. This redesign helped sway Metamask to acquire MyCrypto. Having that pressure definitely inspired me to think critically and constantly question the intentions behind my designs.

Updates

The final thing I didn’t get to touch was the visualization. The last thing I’d love to change about this is making the data viz accessible.

Future

I’m interested to see how the utility of tokens changes as users needs develop. We currently designed this for governance tokens, but am intrigued to see how that changes in the future.
